Parc d’Aiguestortes is the only national park in Catalonia.
Pedraforca is impressive by any standards. It is second most famous mountain in the Catalonia region. Monserrat is the first.
Some say Pedraforca is more beautiful; possibly because of the views to the surrounding Sierra de Cadi, which are breathtaking.
It stands out quite dramatically from the surrounding landscape. All the other peaks seem tiny in comparison. The immediate area surrounding it is relatively flat; this makes it stand out even more.
In winter its peaks are normally covered in snow. In the summer it is a good place to go walking; you can walk straight up to the peak of the mountain without any equipment. All you need is a good pair of shoes. Here you’ll find some spectacular views.
It takes about 7 hours to climb Pedraforca, so you would want to be reasonably fit.
The journey starts from the Albergue, which is right beside the small village of Saldes. From here, you walk upwards through some stunning scenery towards the peak.
This is not the only route you can take. There are many other walkingroutes in the Pedraforca area; some are easier than others. There is a tourist office in Saldes that provides information and route maps.
