Horse riding in the Aran Valley or Baqueira Beret is a fine example of green or eco tourism. Unlike skiing or snowboarding, it doesn’t harm the landscape. It is quite popular here in the Pyrenees, and there are many routes to choose from. You can spend hours here; just you, your horse and the beautiful surrounding landscape. It can be incredibly relaxing and enjoyable.
Routes are typically: paths, cattle tracks, and also forest tracks. They spread all throughout the mountain range.
It’s possible to go riding all throughout the mountain range. The most popular places are the foothills, where you will find numerous riding stables. The sport has become increasing popular over the years; back in the 1980s there were just a handful of riding stables here, now there are many to choose from.
One very well known and respected stable is La Miana. It is located in the Garrotxa, which is in the Catalunya province of the Pyrenees.
Also, in Cerdanya, there are two well renowned stables. You’ll find them near Puigcerda.
A full day’s horse riding costs around 60/70 euros on the French side. It is slightly cheaper on the Spanish side. There are many options, so it is a good idea to have a look around first. Hourly rates are normally between 10 and 20 euros. |
